AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli reserve Major General Yitzhak Brik has stated that Hamas has regained its military capabilities in Gaza, contradicting official Israeli military assessments claiming otherwise.
In an opinion piece published in the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv, Brik described the situation for Israeli forces in Gaza as “grim.”
He asserted that Hamas now commands roughly 40,000 fighters—similar to the group’s strength before the war began.
Brik noted that Hamas continues to wage guerrilla warfare, the same tactics it has relied on throughout the conflict.
He argued that because Hamas never operated as a conventional army, its military strength remains largely intact, despite Israeli claims.
In response, Hamas stated it is engaging in a war of attrition aimed at countering Israeli attacks, saying it surprises the Israeli military daily with new tactics.
In recent days, Palestinian resistance fighters have inflicted casualties on Israeli forces through ambush operations, amid escalating Israeli offensives in Gaza.
On Saturday, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, known as the al-Quds Brigades, announced they had killed or wounded at least 40 Israeli soldiers in a coordinated ambush in northern Gaza.
This statement came on Friday from one of the al-Quds Brigade commanders and was widely reported by resistance-affiliated media.
Observers say these operations reflect the continued strength and resilience of resistance groups, over 20 months since Israel launched its campaign in Gaza.
Palestinian military analyst Rami Abu Zubaydah commented that Hamas appears to be shifting from defensive operations to more strategic attacks against Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its ground offensive, aiming to control more territory within Gaza.
Hamas stated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s notion of “absolute victory” is nothing more than a public deception.
As the war intensifies, strikes on Gaza City have increased, leading to a rise in civilian deaths.
More than 60 Palestinians were killed in Israeli bombings early Sunday.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, over 57,400 Palestinians have been killed in the Strip since October 7, 2023.
